The SpaceJack comes out of a popular card game played on casino floors, Blackjack. This is a skill-based video game offering many exciting ways of gambling through various playing and betting strategies. No download needed, just open an account and start to play immediately.
First, choose the amount you wish to wager. You can bet up to $20.00 on each of your hands. After pressing the DEAL button, each of your hands as well as the Dealer's receive 2 cards. All your cards are dealt face up but only the Dealer's first card is dealt face up.
The most common decision a player must make during the game is whether to draw another card to the hands (HIT), or stop at the current total (STAND). If you stand, the Dealer draws, the game ends and winnings for each hand are distributed according to the payoff chart.
The goal in the SpaceJack is to beat the Dealer's hand by either of two ways: (1) Draw cards until your hand scores are higher than the the Dealer's without going over 21. (2) Do not draw cards and have the Dealer bust, or exceed 21.
The cards are valued as follows:
- An Ace can count as either 1 or 11.
- The cards from 2 through 9 are valued as indicated.
- The 10, Jack, Queen, and King are all valued at 10.
The suits of the cards do not have any meaning in the game. The value of a hand is simply the sum of the point counts of each card in the hand. For example, a hand containing (5,7,9) has the value of 21. The Ace can be counted as either 1 or 11. You need not specify which value the Ace has. It's assumed to always have the value that makes the best hand. An example will illustrate: Suppose that you have the beginning hand (Ace, 6). This hand can be either 7 or 17. If you stop there, it will be 17. Let's assume that you draw another card to the hand and now have (Ace, 6, 3). Your total hand is now 20, counting the Ace as 11. Let's backtrack and assume that you had instead drawn a third card which was an 8. The hand is now (Ace, 6, 8) which totals 15. Notice that now the Ace must be counted as only 1 to avoid going over 21.
A more profitable player option is the choice to DOUBLE DOWN. This can only be done with two card hands, before other cards have been drawn. Doubling down allows you to double your bets (all of them!) and receive one, and only one, additional card to all your hands. A good example of a doubling opportunity is when you hold a total of 11, say a (6,5) against a Dealer's upcard of 5. In this case, you have a good chance of winning the hand by drawing one additional card, so you might as well increase your bet in this advantageous situation.
After the game ends, a status line below the machine informs you about your loss and gain totals. LOSS is a sum of all your bets placed, GAIN shows the money you got back from the machine. Considering our example illustrated above, your loss would be $22.00, and your gain $1.00 as the Dealer beat hand 1 (21 > 17) and hand 2 (21 > 16). The winning hand 3 (21 Dealer = 21 Hand 3) is a push (please consult the payoff chart).
HOW THE DEALER PLAYS HIS HAND
The machine plays its hand in a specific way, with no choices allowed. It must continue to take cards (HIT) until its total is 17 or greater. An Ace in the Dealer's hand is always counted as 11 if possible without the Dealer going over 21. For example, (Ace,8) would be 19 and the Dealer would stop drawing cards (STAND). Also, (Ace,6) is 17 and again the Dealer will stand. (Ace,5) is only 16, so the Dealer would hit. The machine will continue to draw cards until the hand's value is 17 or more. For example, (Ace,5,7) is only 13 so it hits again. (Ace,5,7,5) makes 18 so it would stop (STAND) at that point.
FOR BLACKJACK PLAYERS
The SpaceJack is played with 4 decks which are shuffled after each hand. The Dealer stands on all 17s. The rules are simplified in comparison with the original Blackjack game. There is no surrender option, no splitting pairs and no insurance. On the other hand, the SpaceJack pays more for a natural 21 then the usual Blackjack paytables do. The most fundamental difference is that a new card is added to ALL of your hands after drawing (HIT) or doubling down. We suggest to learn a Blackjack strategy for a better game.
